Ana Serrano’s Cartonlandia

Inspired by both of the cultural contexts in her life, Ana Serrano creates work bearing reference to those in low socioeconomic positions, with particular interest in the customs and beliefs, as well as the architecture, fashion, and informal economies present within this segment of society.

Fascinated by the colourful houses on the steep hillside in Guanajuato in Mexico, she began to research similar architectural landscapes, such as the favelas in Rio de Janeiro and Cinque Terra’s terraced village in Italy. Subsequently she merged her findings into “Cartonlandia”.
